Antigua: The Ultimate Romantic Caribbean Island
The Beach at Blue Waters HotelKelly & Kody, @positravelty. 95 miles of coastline, white sand, vibrant blue and crystal clear waters… need I say more? I know there are a lot of options when planning a trip to the Caribbean and you can trust me when I say this: Antigua and Barbuda are not to be overlooked. These islands are best known for their romantic appeal, the white and pink sand beaches and the incredible kindness shown by the welcoming locals. This is, without a doubt, a magical place where love and wanderlust collide.

We recently put up a blog post about one of the Caribbean’s best kept secrets, Curaçao, but now we want to tell you about another island that seems to fall through the cracks. Hidden in the southern Caribbean is another very small island that really only seems to encounter tourism from the Netherlands. Well, as should be no surprise, the small, charming island of Bonaire is part of the Dutch Caribbean and also part of the the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Let's dive deep into this little paradise and give you a reason to change your typical Caribbean plans for an island that is much lesser known.

It’s easy when you think of the Caribbean to default to places like the Virgin Islands (US or British), Turks and Caicos, Dominican Republic or Puerto Rico because these are the islands we are all the most familiar with. We see them in movies, read about them in magazines and hear stories from friends or family members that have either traveled there in the past or plan to in the future. All the Caribbean islands are beautiful, no doubt about that, but if you are looking for a getaway this year we have to recommend that you step out of the box and try out a new island that many people don’t even exist. Now, we already dropped some knowledge on the epic blue waters in Zanzibar in a previous post, but this place we are about to tell you about is another island we have visited that shares the same gorgeous, clear blues and happens to be a little closer to home for us USA natives. Before we get into this do yourself a favor and open up a flight booking site. Trust us, you are going to want to see what it takes to get here.

It is quite often that certain destinations look like they are best visited only at certain times of the year and then off limits at other times. While this may be the case for some places there are definitely others that fly below the radar when it comes to opportunities for year-round tourism. Michigan and its coastal cities happen to be one of those destinations.

Slovenia was always a place that slipped under the radar for us and we honestly only went there because we were passing through it on our way from Slovakia to Austria. When we realized the route was taking us that way we just decided on the fly to make an actual stop there and see what the country had to offer - it was completely worth it.

Florida is a favorite for the northerners. They all flock down like birds as the winter months start to approach and they stay there until it is safe to migrate back to their more northernly homes. While Miami may be the first place in Florida that comes to mind, the Keys seem to be a close second for most people that we speak with even though it doesn’t necessarily see the same influx in seasonal nestings as places like Sarasota, Anna Maria and Bradenton do. The Keys are known for other reasons… reasons that brought us there in the first place.

Truthfully, the views we witnessed here during our brief visit in September of 2018 were some of the best that we have seen in our entire lives and we barely saw any of what the country has to offer. This was the absolute start of our Instagram posting and we were still shooting everything on an iPhone 7… the quality is just not great (Sorry!). Regardless of the photo quality we had an absolutely amazing time there and our hike to Preikestolen is one of our favorite memories from Norway.

When we look back on all the hiking that we have done over the past years there is no hike more daunting than one we did Norway back in the fall of 2018. We are both suckers for epic view points so you can’t really blame us for trying to hit up the world famous point known as Trolltunga, can you? Well, unfortunately we can totally blame ourselves for the absolutely brutal experience we had because we literally did it at the absolute last possible time to do it ‘safely’ without a guide. Are you ready to hear about this?

Well, look no further, we have you covered. After about a year into this whole pandemic situation it is natural to feel a little stir crazy, bored, and even a little depressed. After being so accustomed to a world where you can go anywhere you want at any point in time it is certainly tough to continue being boarded up. A few months back we were both feeling exhausted with doing absolutely nothing and decided to plan a weekend away. Houston, TX was the closest city to us so we packed up the car and started driving.

Beaches may be our favorite style of destination travel, but mountains certainly have their way of calling out to us. We actually spent the majority of our intro to travel photography on hikes, day after day, through the majority of southern Europe. The dramatic backdrops helped to mask the obvious awkwardness we had in front of the camera and also gave us, by default, a beautiful image to look at. Unfortunately in the beginning of this form of travel we weren’t really able to travel to Switzerland due to the price tag involved in hitting all the sites that we wanted to see. It is no secret that it is an expensive country so we just decided to opt out at the time. After a year went by and we had established ourselves as photographers we decided it was time to return with our professional equipment. The country’s tourism price tag hadn’t dropped at all but it was definitely worth every dollar we spent.

You never really think something will go viral at the time of shooting, or at the time of posting for that matter. We put up the photos that we love the most, the photos from our most favorite locations around the world, and while we certainly hope to captivate our audience there is truly no telling how far a photo could go. It is funny to look back on these photos now, remembering the lighthearted playfulness involved in the preparation and the feeling of pure excitement when we looked through the camera and realized we got the shots to turn out exactly how we wanted. There is never a nervousness involved, or some sort of retroactive fear for some kind of ‘what if’ because they were never a product of the supposed reckless abandonment of self worth that the media portrayed it as. Anyway, this article isn’t to talk about that necessarily, but rather to gift you all a new, lighthearted version of the same photos that left so many people feeling triggered AF and leave us all with a much more pleasant taste in our mouths - courtesy of Bernie Sanders’ mittens. Now, before you run off to grab grandpappy’s ‘I’m offended’ shovel from his 'internet hate speech shed' and dig deep into this article, just take a breath. There is nothing to dig into. This is meant to be fun so please just enjoy yourself, let loose and let yourself giggle a bit. Shall we proceed?

Now, however, we have a new destination for you all to read about and guess what… it isn’t located in the Andes Mountains. That’s right, there is something to see in Peru that is very close to sea level!

We did EBC (Everest Base Camp - check out our Budget Blog Post!) a couple years back and we have done a ton of hiking in most of Europe and also in South Africa. We are no strangers to the mountains and definitely enjoy having them creep into our travel itineraries now and again. One of the most majestic hikes that we have been lucky to complete was part of our Northern Italy road trip back in the fall of 2018, right when we were starting our Instagram account. The Dolomites are an incredible range of mountains and they have some of the most dramatic peaks that we have ever seen.

Well let me tell you something: if you have never looked this place up… DO IT IMMEDIATELY! Oh and in advance, you are welcome.

I can still remember the exact moment when we started sharing our first photos from our hike to Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca) back in 2019. The majority of the responses were just people wondering where it was and then everyone was blown away that it was in Peru, surprised that they had never heard of it before.

The places that are the most beautiful, the most unique and the most dramatic quickly become hotspots for travelers and tourists of all forms. They become overcrowded, overdone and well… boring after a while. There are some places, however, that are able to maintain their charm over time despite receiving an influx of visitors during the best touristic times and Grand Haven, Michigan is definitely one of them.

It was a time where, to be completely honest, the stoke for life on the road was dwindling. We had been chasing light and location for more than a year straight and we were beyond exhausted, ready for a bit of permanence and routine. We caught a flight out of Cairo toward the end of the month bound for South Africa, a country that we know and love, for what would become the most amazing safari experience that we could have ever had... one that would reignite the flame to keep us chasing the next shot.
