Lyst Index: demand for beachwear explodes

Gucci, Dior, Nike... In the ranking of the most popular brands of the moment, the names are always a bit the same. But for this second quarter of 2021, the Lyst Index points to a salient fact that reveals the state of mind of consumers.

Specialty search engine Lyst noted a 192 percent increase in searches for beachwear compared to the second quarter of 2020. While the pandemic is not over, "consumers were in a very different mindset from Q2 2020," Lyst points out. The desire for a vacation or at least the great outdoors and a return to "normal" suggests consumer impatience after about a year of restrictions.

In detail, searches for dresses increased by 371 percent, sunglasses by 198 percent, and beachwear by 192 percent. The rollout of vaccination campaigns and the lifting of confinements in several countries also led to an increase in demand for dressier outfits and items associated with travel and leisure.

Among the most popular products for women in Q2 2021 were Nike Air Force One sneakers, Bottega Veneta's mini Jodie bag, Jacquemus' Artichoke bob, Prada organic denim top, Marine Serre's Moonfish spindle leggings. While the men were seduced by the Adidas Yeezy slides, the Off-White Virgil glasses, the Prax 01 sneakers by Prada, or the Barocco swim shorts by Versace.
