The city of Houston is in line for a brand-new surf park. Construction of HTX Surf, a world-class surf resort and destination, will get underway in the first half of 2023. A press release states that the new surf resort will be located in Generation Park, which is just 10 minutes from Bush Intercontinental Airport and sixty minutes from the bustling Houston metropolitan area.
The new surf facility is set to have a six-acre surf lagoon that can handle more than seventy surfers each hour and is suitable for both beginners and pros alike. The plan is to construct a beach for spectators to enjoy the sport of surfing that rivals some of the best surf spots around the globe.
According to a company press release, the new facility will offer a “surfing experience rivaling the ocean by delivering perfect waves every time.” The technology underlying HTX Surf is capable of producing up to a thousand waves per hour and can be easily modified to make waves of varied sizes and degrees of difficulty.
The Wavegarden Cove lagoon at HTX Surf will be a tropical inland paradise located right in the heart of Texas, complete with a predictable year-round surf forecast and consistent swells. This new breakthrough technique faithfully reproduces the motion of water particles in ocean ground swells, without the existence of secondary waves that typically decrease wave quality. As the forces are transmitted from the machinery to the water, very little wasted energy occurs. To generate perfectly synchronized waves, the Wavegarden Cove's individual modules will each be driven by its own electromechanical system. You may simply alter the wave's shape and size by switching between its various modes and types at the touch of a button.
“This is a special location for us as it is true to our vision of sharing great waves with everyone, everywhere in the world, specifically those who live far away from the ocean. We are looking forward to seeing HTX Surf bring our Wavegarden Cove technology to Houston,” said Fernando Odriozola, Wavegarden’s Chief Commercial Officer.
HTX Surf promises something for everyone. There will be more activities available than just surfing, including a skateboard pump track, a members-only club, hot tubs, fire pits, a pool, beach areas with food and drink options, and a concert and event lawn for hosting parties and festivals.
Alex Bergman, the principal partner of Beach Street Development, has predicted that the opening will occur in the fall of 2024.
“We plan to break ground this winter and are working with a well-known Houston-based (general contractor) that also has offices around the country,” said Bergman.
