Thursday was the first day that multiple buses arrived at once in the Capitol.
Two charter buses from Texas dropped off migrants in a park between the Capitol and Union Station transportation hub.
"Not once has President Biden been to the border to see exactly what's going on. If he will not come to the border, I'm going to take the border to President Biden." "He will see by these daily flows of buses of what it's going to be like of what Texans are dealing with, and the members of Congress are going to have to deal with it directly." "We will carry as many people as we can, and this is going to be an ongoing process." -Governor Abbott.
Criminals crossing our borders? The U.S. Customs and Border Protection website says yes.
Convicted murderer Victor Alfonso Cruz-Garcia, 35, was arrested at the border on April 14th. He was trying to cross into the U.S. and is an example of just one of the criminals arrested attempting to cross the border this month.
On April 20th, agents detained a Honduran national trying to cross the border. This particular Honduran national has prior convictions of criminal sexual conduct.
After being deported previously, the sex offender had already served two years in prison for being unlawfully present in the U.S. in the past.
On the same evening, agents apprehended eight migrants near Mission, Texas. The group included:
- A male Salvadoran registered sex offender convicted of rape.
- MS-13 gang member.
- 18th street gang member
The U.S. has no options. They have to detain or release people at the border because of limitations on deporting anyone beyond Central America.
Resolving immigration issues in court takes several years, and the numbers of migrants crossing over make it impossible to detain everyone.
"They were having the Biden administration just drop off dozens, if not hundreds, of migrants into their communities that they had no way of dealing with whatsoever." "We are aiding those local communities by busing them out of there. And as opposed to busing them to a location somewhere in the state of Texas, we want to take them all the way to Washington, D.C."
-Texas Governor Abbott
