NEW ORLEANS, LA - University of New Orleans Privateers men's tennis team has signed Akos Kotorman from Tulane University as the new addition for the upcoming 2021-2022 season.
Before beginning collegiate tennis, Kotorman had a number of honors to his name. Kotorman, a native of Hungary, won six Hungarian national championships in singles and doubles. He was also a European champion in doubles when he was 14 years old, and he finished third in the same event when he was 16.
Kotorman rose to an ITF ranking of 62 during the same time period. He has won ITF Grade 3 and 4 tournaments and has reached four semifinals in Grade 2 and 1 tournaments. In 2016, Kotorman was a member of the Hungarian Davis Cup practice squad, where he worked out with two current ATP Top 150 players, Marton Fucsovics and Attila Balzas.
"Akos is one of the highest-ranked recruits in my career," said coach Burzis Kanga. "He will be challenging for the top spot. Akos is an accomplished player who has a great game in singles and doubles. His presence will hopefully bring us a step closer to winning a championship. He has also played for two excellent teams in Baylor and Tulane."
Kotorman has been with the Green Wave since 2018. He won 40 overall doubles matches in his career and was a member of a nationally ranked doubles team with Hamish Stewart. At the start of the season, the pair was ranked 59th in the ITA.
Kotorman made his Baylor debut with seven singles wins and 16 wins in double. He also won two matches at the ITA Collegiate Tennis Challenge in Indian Wells.
