NEW ORLEANS, LA – If you are looking for a new or refined creative way to gain new skills for adults, “Adult Summer Camp” at Ogden Museum of Southern Art at 925 Camp St., New Orleans, is for you.

This five-day in-person adult program allows participants to hone their artistic skills and explore new avenues of expression throughout July 26-30, starts from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Mikhayla Harrell, Museum Educator, will lead participants through deep art observation, followed by art-making inspired by works on display in the Museum's galleries, during the session.

Participants will be inspired by Built: Sculptural Art from the Permanent Collection and Preservative Force: Recent Acquisitions to the Collection. Douglas Bourgeois, Lin Emery, Robert Tannen, William Dunlap, Mel Chin, and George Dureau will be among the artists investigated.

As part of the curriculum, participants will also explore a wide range of 2D and 3D media, as well as color theory, with a focus on traditional techniques such as life drawing, painting, sculpture, and collage throughout the week.

A variety of materials, including found and organic objects like intertubes, wood, and cardboard, as well as more traditional art supplies like pencil, paint, and collage will be provided to be experimented with.

This program will cost $250 for members and $300 for non-members. All materials are provided. Several Covid-19 precautions will be implemented to ensure the safety of all participants and staff, including social distancing with a maximum of 12 participants for each session.

Face coverings are required at all times and participants must bring their own face coverings. Upon arrival, each participant's temperature will be taken using a no-touch forehead thermometer. If a temperature of 100°F or higher is recorded, the participant will be unable to attend camp on that day.

The Museum keeps a strict cleaning schedule, sanitizing high-touch areas, like door handles, on a regular basis. The studio will also be sanitized on a daily basis, and staff will be provided with disinfectant wipes to use for sanitizing high-touch areas throughout the day.
