It's THAT Time of Year: NFL Draft 2022
If you are the typical Philadelphia Eagles
fan, the 2022-2023 season began as the
Birds were sent home in an embarrassing
loss to Tom Brady and his Tampa Bay
Buccaneers on January 16th of this year.
9-9 was not good enough.
Hurts was not good enough.
Gannon was not good enough.
Hell, the whole team was not good enough.
It's that time of year again when
Philadelphia Eagles fans alike debate on
social media about where our biggest needs
are and how to solve them. I know I have
LITERALY gone to bed refreshing my go-to
draft simulator countless times. I'm sure
you have as well. At the end of the day it
seems that the majority of Eagles fans can
agree on one thing: defense.
Cornerback
Darius Slay had an outstanding season this
year and showed he is worth every penny of
his contract. As amazing as he is, it is time
to face the facts, Slay is getting older.
Drafting a young corner with a fertile mind
and willingness to learn from one of the best
corner is the league is imperative. Sauce
Gardner and Derek Stingley, Jr. are always
mentioned in the mix. Will the birds draft
one of the top CB prospects to protect the
nest alongside Big Play Slay this season
with one of their first back-to-back 1st
Round picks? Or does Howe think we have
other priorities?
D-Line
Call a spade a spade here. The defensive
line no longer looks like it has in previous
years. Graham went down early last
season. Barnett loves serious penalties at
the worst times. Cox is "double teamed"
constantly (or maybe hit his peak).
Hargrave was great - we can all agree, I'm
sure. If we are going to rebuild, we need to
get younger. George Karlaftis would
definitely add some spark. Jordan Davis
had a 40 time that has all eyes on him.
Ojabo just got injured today so he may fall.
Overall - we need help and any of these
fellas would give the Philadelphia Eagles a
boost.
Linebacker
When is the last time we had a prime
linebacker that could keep up with the
tempo of offenses around the league? Nate
Gerry was definitely not it 2 seasons ago
and for some reason Singleton became a
Nate Gerry 2.0 this year. Devin Lloyd is the
top LB prospect coming out of this season's
draft. Nakobe Dean is right up there with
him. The issue with taking these top guys
with one of our first round picks is the fact
that there are some other very talented LBs
that should be available in later rounds.
The Philadelphia Eagles front office seem to
believe this as well since they have yet to
draft a LB in the first round since Jerry
Robinson in 1979. As much as I would
LOVE to see a stud linebacker, I do not plan
on holding my breath.
Screenshot your draft pick results. Post
them on groups and in comments. Debate
with your friends about whose is better. At
the end of the day, Howie and his 3-year
extension is in charge. Can April 28th be
here already?
