Two Plymouth Volunteer Coaches describe their favorite volunteer experiences

PLYMOUTH, MN - The City of Plymouth is pleased to share a story about Patrick Schwinghammer and Shane Breault's experience as Youth Athletics Volunteers. Their role as volunteers is to coach recreational flag football in the spring and fall.

Shane and Patrick's favorite aspect of being city volunteers is giving back to the community and repaying all of the time prior coaches and mentors invested with them.

"I enjoy fostering a love of the game at a young age and seeing the joy players experience when they put in the effort and finds success in their personal growth and development," Shane added. "Scores will be forgotten, but the friendships and memories they make on the field with their teammates will endure."
"It's great to spend quality time with my son and teach young kids the values of a team sport: effort, friendship, and teamwork," Patrick remarked. "I have cherished youth football memories of my own that I think about from time to time."

Children have a great first experience playing sports in a nurturing environment because Shane and Patrick volunteer.

Having educated leadership on parent-led teams fosters quality interactions, and children have excellent role models from whom to learn.

Plymouth relies on volunteer coaches to conduct successful youth sports leagues. The City prefers to have two coaches for each squad. If a team in a league does not have a coach, it is possible that the team will be unable to compete until the City can find a volunteer.

Plymouth offers training, instructional materials, and an enjoyable experience. Register to co-coach with a friend (both coaches must register for the same course number).

Each coach per team (maximum of two) receives a 50% reimbursement for their child's soccer registration at the conclusion of the season IF the team's equipment is returned by the deadline.
