HENNEPIN COUNTY, MN - With the increasing variety of violence and fraud cases that occur at all levels of society and the growing number of reported cases of violence and fraud, the community needs a place to bring legal action into it. As a city that protects its people, Hennepin County Attorney (HCA) holds an annual presentation that discusses these particular issues.
HCA is raising a sensitive topic in their presentation this year. The 2021 August Virtual Presentation is held virtually from August 3 until August 25. Issues and cases raised include Child Support, Victims' Rights, Domestic Abuse, Sexual Assault, also Fraud, and Identity Theft Scams.
On Tuesday, August 3 at 6 pm, Assistant Hennepin County Attorney Rachelle Drakeford presented a Child Support presentation. The Spanish version of the Child Support presentation was held on August 4 at 6 pm with Spanish interpreter Maria Alvillar Hinojosa.
The presentations briefly explained Child Support and how parents often have the misconception regarding the legal system of it. Drakeford presents that Child Support depends on both parents' incomes, not just one. If parents have joint custody, then neither parent has to pay child support. One parent will have the children more often than the other in most cases. Child support is supported by both parents regardless of their income.
Hennepin County Attorney will have another coming-up presentation until August 25. On Tuesday, August 10, Assistant Hennepin County Attorney Christina Warren and Legal Services Specialist Sharon Born will present Victims' Rights.
Moreover, the day after, the presentation will be delivered in Spanish by Assistant Hennepin County Attorney Jacqueline Perez and Legal Services Specialist Yaidy Ceballo. On August 12, the same issue will be presented in Somali by Assistant Hennepin County Attorney Warsame Galaydh. Both presentations will start at 6 pm.
