Akron, OH - To promote the communities' health and safety served by FirstEnergy Corp., especially in Ohio and its surroundings, the firm is distributing tens of thousands of cleaning supplies, face masks, gloves, and numerous forms of personal protective equipment to the United Way.
The items will be delivered to 15 United Way chapters throughout FirstEnergy's service area and are valued at $2.2 million. A massive number of 7,300 face masks and 18,800 N-95 respirators were distributed.
The donated items also include 280 one-gallon hand sanitizer containers with pumps, 2,400 half-gallon hand sanitizer refills, 3,000 nitrile powder-free gloves, 6,000 hand-pump hand sanitizer dispensers, 31,300 canisters of disinfectant wipes, and 172,000 packets of disinfectant wipes.
The PPE supplies are distributed through more than 15 United Way chapters in areas served by all ten of FirstEnergy's operating companies. For the Ohio area, the distribution includes United Way of Greater Stark, United Way of Greater Toledo, and United Way of Summit & Medina Counties.
Tygart Valley United Way, United Way of Monogalia & Preston Counties, and United Way of Eastern Panhandle were the receivers for the West Virginia area. Meanwhile, for Maryland, they were United Way of Allegany County and United Way of Washington County.
The supplies were also distributed to New Jersey through United Way of Monmouth & Ocean Counties and United Way of Northern New Jersey. The same goes for Pennsylvania through United Way of Berks County and United Way of Erie County, Community Action Partnership (via United Way of Mercer County), United Way of Southwestern Pa.-Westmoreland County, and United Way of Washington County.
Across the company's six-state service area, FirstEnergy regularly supports more than 100 United Way chapters. In the year 2020, the corporation and its workers donated more than $3 million to 116 United Way agencies around the country.
