David Letterman Knocked Unconscious in August, Thanks RI Hospital

Otis Adams

A video was posted on YouTube recently featuring David Letterman, who thanked the Rhode Island Hospital for the treatment he received following a trip and fall in which Letterman was knocked unconscious after hitting his head.

Letterman says he was walking around with his son in Providence, Rhode Island on August 16 when the fall occurred.

I trip, hit my head on the sidewalk, I go unconscious - I've never been knocked out before in my life. (David Letterman)

Letterman says folks gathered around him and an ambulance was called. He and his son rode in the ambulance to the Rhode Island Hospital emergency room where he was x-rayed and stitched up.

He went on to exaggerate - in Letterman fashion - the good treatment he received at the hospital.

They scrubbed me up, they had a guy come in and clean my teeth, I got a brand-new suit, two pairs of pants - it was delightful. (David Letterman)

On a serious note, Letterman said the staff at the emergency room turned a scary moment in his life into "a fun little project".

Letterman's fall and head injury went unreported until he told the story in his thank you video, which was posted on the Lifespan Health System YouTube channel.

An official Letterman channel has been recently added to YouTube. Previously, the most-viewed source for Letterman on the video site was Don Giller's channel, though the new official Letterman YouTube channel features shorter videos that rarely exceed ten to fifteen minutes in length.
