The National Basketball Association tends to be a very physical sport, but one superstar took it too far in a recent game.
During a game on Thursday, February 2nd, 2023, between the Memphis Grizzlies and Cleveland Cavaliers, Memphis Grizzlies guard Dillon Brooks egregiously whacked fellow NBA superstar and Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Donovan Mitchell in the groin area.
After review, the referees immediately issued a Flagrant Foul 2 on the play and ejected Dillon Brooks from the game. Now, the NBA has stepped in and increased the punishment.
According to NBA Public Relations & Communications, they released the following statement that the NBA has suspended guard-forward Dillon Brooks for one game without pay due to his role in the on-court altercation.
The NBA also proceeded to fine superstar point guard Donavan Mitchell $20,000 for the incident.
Dillon Brooks will be serving his suspension on Sunday, February 5, 2023, as the Memphis Grizzlies play the Toronto Raptors.
Dillon Brooks, who turned 27 years old just last a couple of weeks ago on January 22, has played his entire six-year career with the Memphis Grizzlies, and this season is averaging 15.3 points per game, 3.4 rebounds per game, and 2.6 assists per game over the course of 48 games and 30.6 minutes per game.
The Memphis Grizzlies are also without big man Steven Adams due to a PCL sprain, so the loss of Dillon Brooks will not help the team.
The Memphis Grizzlies are currently 32-20 and in second place in the Western Conference, just four games back from the Denver Nuggets.
