The Next Lake Nona?

O-Town Review
The Next Lake NonaNeoCity - City of Osceola

As Florida continues to expand with the influx of people who want our beautiful weather and low taxes, so do our communities. Have you heard? Word on the street is there is a brand new “city” development being built in Osceola County and it is going to be an epicenter for technology-based expansion in an environment that promotes collaboration and local job creation. Are you ready for the name? It’s being called NeoCity!!

You may be wondering where exactly this new “city of technology” is going to be? Its already being developed in Osceola County, between Kissimmee and St. Cloud, on the edge of Lake Tohopekaliga. This is a great location because it will draw people out of the most central parts of Florida which are becoming extremely congested, and re-route them to the outer borders of our City Beautiful. It will also create new job markets for the Osceola County area which could use the extra help. I don’t know about you, but when I think of Osceola County, all I think of is close to Disney, farmland, and a long drive, but now we will have a brand-new showcase city to draw in the crowds.

So, what’s so special about this new city of the future? First, it’s unlike anything you have ever seen in Florida. NeoCity is being developed with the idea in mind of sustainability. The city will be completely walkable/bikeable/runnable….whatever-able!!! This is great because it gives that small city feels but still allows access to all that Orlando has to offer. The city itself will have 166 acres of water, 10 miles of roads, 15 acres of open space, and over two miles of dedicated bike lanes. This shows you how small NeoCity will physically be but imagine how amazing and open it’s going to feel. With a city that promotes more walking and neighborhood stores, you could ride your bike to, it will already open up the space with fewer cars. I’m looking forward to that one myself!

The developers of NeoCity are putting plans in place for ways to connect this new city to the outside world. There are plans for expanding the SunRail to drop off right at NeoCity’s front door. Valencia Community College may even be getting a walking bridge from NeoCity to the college! How cool is that! Not to mention the location of NeoCity is positioned in such a way that you have easy access to Orlando International Airport and Kissimmee Gateway Airport along with access to all the major roads that connect all the Central Florida counties together like the turnpike, 192, and the 417. Access is everything and the developers really know what they are doing when it comes to NeoCity’s creation.

NeoCity will be providing a unique place that will attract those in the high-tech innovation & technology fields. They are working with the University of Central Florida, the University of Florida, and the University of South Florida, among others, to make sure not one piece of technology is missed in this futuristic city. Some of the things this new city will offer are smart sensors, photonics, and optics. If you don’t know what that means, don’t worry, neither do I, but I do know it’s fancy-schmancy AND the wave of our future.

There will be more to come about this amazing city as it continues to be developed and check back here for more updates as we are following NeoCity’s development closely. Check out for more information or to follow along with the development of our new town!
