Now that you are dating someone that you really like, you may be wondering when you should bring up the topic of pet names. Now, this is not something that everyone is comfortable with, so though it can be a small matter, you might want to approach your other half with the subject before using a pet name on him or her.

Pet names or endearing names that you might call one another can be a signal of closeness for some. It might be a good way to signal that the two of you are in a relationship, and it might be a way for you to remember how the other person makes you feel. The pet names used in a relationship are different for everyone. It just depends on the comfortability of the couple and the names that are meaningful to them.

Some people may not be comfortable with using pet names. This is okay too. Not everyone wants someone calling him or her a name other than their own in front of strangers and friends. This might be something that makes the other person feel insecure, so it is definitely something to talk about.

Before calling a person by a pet name, ask him or her what his or her feelings are on the subject. Make sure he or she is on the same page as you are, and if all flags are green, then come up with an endearing name that means something to both of you and represents your relationship. Pet names can be fun, but it is important to ask permission first.
