NYC, Homeless man arrested for trespassing and illegally spending a night in a luxury hotel.

NYPD arrested a homeless man accused of illegally staying and leaving a suspicious powdery substance in a luxury hotel in NYC.

According to the police, the man found a key card with magnetic stripe on a sidewalk, and he used it to enter a room on 11 floor of the Park Hyatt Hotel, located at 153 W 57th Street, Midtown, Manhattan. The homeless man entered the room around 8:30 p.m. on November 25, and after spending a whole night there, he checked out around 10:30 a.m. in the next morning.

Later around 1:20 p.m, a female housekeeper went to clean the room where she encountered a white powdery substance which made her sick and she was sent to a local hospital by EMS.

FDNY was notified about the incident, and they came to inspect the room. Since the powdery substance was already cleaned by the housekeeper, the remaining residues were sent for examination, and the initial results indicated that the white substance had some traces of explosives in it. The whole 11th floor was evacuated, and bomb squad was called to the scene.

Later on further investigation it was found that the substance is not an explosive and the initial tests were a false positive.

According to the NYPD, a family who stayed in the hotel had five hotel room keys and they must have dropped one of the key while checking out on November 25, the same lost key was recovered by the accused, and he used it to enter the hotel.

According to the officials, The accused has a previous record, and he had been previously arrested 16 times for minor crimes.
