Hispanic Heritage Month is a national celebration to honor the history and contributions of people from Spain, Mexico, the Carribean, and Central and South America.

The observance started in 1968 under President Lyndon Johnson's administration as a one-week celebration called Hispanic Heritage Week and was later extended into a month-long holiday.

It runs from September 15 to October 15 to mark the various independence days of different countries.

This Hispanic Heritage Month NewsBreak invites contributors to share stories about local events commemorating the month, prominent Latino leaders in their communities, Latino-owned businesses, and any other stories connected to the observance.
