The first annual NewsBreak Headliner Awards will take place January 25, 2022NewsBreak

2021 marked the first full year of the NewsBreak Contributor Network (née Creator Program) and we have so much to look back on! On January 25, 2022, we’re inviting our contributors to a virtual event that’s all about celebrating their remarkable achievements.

We’re excited to announce the nominees for our premiere NewsBreak Headliner Awards below. These awards recognize the year-long accomplishments of some of our most active contributors. We’re also accepting nominations for the top stories of 2021. If you have a piece that you’re particularly proud of or if you want to nominate a story from a fellow contributor that blew your socks off, please do so via this form. The deadline for nominations is Monday, January 17th.

Without further adieu, here are your 2021 contributor nominations. Winners for each of these categories, along with additional ones, will be announced live on January 25th!

This award recognizes the contributor with the most videos published in 2021.

This award recognizes the contributor with the most commented and shared stories of 2021.

Local Champion (Writer)

This award recognizes the contributor with the most stories written about their region.

Local Champion (Video)

This award recognizes the contributor with the most videos published about their region.

Community All-Star

This award recognizes the leaders within the NewsBreak community who are lending helping hands to other contributors through our community platforms, virtual events, and more.

We have a few more surprises including the 2021 Achievement Award. This special award recognizes one standout member of our Contributor Network for their accomplishments this past year and dedication to fulfilling NewsBreak’s mission of helping people everywhere live safer, more vibrant, more truly connected lives.

Announcing the winners of NewsBreak's Black History Month content campaign

For our Black History Month content campaign, NewsBreak asked contributors to submit local-centric stories that highlight Black communities. From videos about their favorite Black-owned establishments to posts spotlighting Black historical tradition in their area, contributors shared dozens of stories commemorating the month. Among those that stood out include the two pieces selected as Editor’s Pick. Several members of NewsBreak's content team chose these selections, basing their vote on the quality of the content, including its local-centric focus and the unique value it adds to NewsBreak, and the stories' adherence to the guidelines outlined in the content campaign's original announcement. The contributors behind these stories will be awarded $175 and NewsBreak will make a one-time donation of $125 to a local organization in the home states in which the winners reside.
