THE LEAD: During an interview with Fox News, one reality television star announced that he will attempt to pursue a candidacy for president while serving a 22-year prison term, however, while he attempts to run as a Libertarian, the party is not expected to consider his candidacy as a serious attempt.
"TIGER KING" FOR PRESIDENT: "Tiger King" Joe Exotic, perhaps best known for the documentary series that detailed his involvement in the interwoven community of big cat ownership and conservatories in the United States, focusing extensively on his relationship with Carole Baskin, who operated a big cat rescue organization.
Exotic was arrested and sentenced to 22 years in prison on charges of animal abuse and a murder-for-hire plot involving Baskin, who he allegedly attempted to have killed.
Despite all of this, Exotic says that he is running for president in 2024 as a Libertarian and has filed papers with the FEC back in February.
"TIGER KING" INTERVIEW: In his interview with Fox News where he acknowledged his presidential bid, the "Tiger King" detailed what he hoped to achieve with his candidacy, saying that he was seeking to "Make America Exotic."
“First of all, you know, it’s my constitutional right to do this. It doesn’t matter what people think. This ain’t a joke,” Exotic said in a phone interview with Fox News' Lawrence Jones over the weekend.
“We have President Putin [who] just has warrants for his arrest for war crimes. We have President Trump under the possibility of an indictment and other criminal charges. We have Hunter Biden and President Biden under investigation for money laundering and making bad deals,” he continued.
“What the hell’s the difference in somebody in prison that sees the system for what it really is and exposing this and trying to fix it?”
And while nothing is prohibiting Exotic from running for president while in prison, he will certainly face challenges from his inability to reach out to possible voters as well as the unique nature of his campaign.
