Reports are coming out of cable news startup NewsNation that their new star anchor, Chris Cuomo, is demanding to be moved to a new timeslot amid shrinking ratings, according to the reports.
Cuomo started at NewsNation on October 3, launching 147,000 viewers, but that number has shrunk to an average of 119,000 viewers by the week of October 17. Cuomo's interview with Kanye West pulled in 129,000 viewers, the Post reports.
The NYP report states that Cuomo is "fuming about the lackluster performance of his nightly broadcast, which airs at 8 p.m. Monday through Friday."
They say Cuomo has met with NewsNation president of news Michael Corn, who was Cuomo's boss at ABC News in the past. Cuomo reportedly wanted to switch timeslots with Dan Abrams, whose show airs at 9 p.m. ET.
The report indicates that Cuomo is "getting nasty about the ratings and starting to blame everyone but himself. He's blaming the network, staff that he personally hired, his lead-in, the promo department and even the press department."
Cuomo also reportedly is unhappy that his show has been regularly losing in the ratings to conservative cable news network Newsmax. The Post says that "NewsMax's Eric Bolling is consistently beating Cuomo with between 150,000 and 200,000 viewers a night."
Cuomo's lead-in show, "On Balance with Leland Vittert," has been averaging just 30,000 viewers a night. A move to 9 p.m. for Cuomo could help him have a stronger lead-in, which could carry many viewers over to his show.
