Thunderbunny, a 14 ft glass mosaic bunny rabbit left Seattle today enroute to West Palm Beach. The sculpture, by American artist Hunt Slonem, will be on display at the Palm Beach Convention Center during the Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary Fair March 24th – 27th courtesy of New River Fine Art.
Hunt Slonem (b. 1951) is an internationally acclaimed artist known for producing Representational imagery and combining Abstract Expressionism with Mysticism. He is perhaps best known for his themes of bunnies, birds and butterflies although his oeuvre consists of a wide range of two and three-dimensional works of art. Smaller scale works will be on display at New River Fine Art’s booth H9 inside the fair.
“Slonem is a gifted artist who has received numerous awards for his works, and we are thrilled to include his art in our exhibition at the fair” states Lisa Burgess, owner of New River Fine Art. “Over fifty museums internationally include his work in their collections, among them The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, New York.”
When asked about the work, Slonem said “It's been a dream of mine to work in mosaic on such a monumental scale. I've explored the medium over the last 40 years but feel the impact of this piece is what I've been striving for my entire life. I couldn't be happier to officially launch Thunderbunny with New River Fine Art at Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary”.
Created at Slonem’s studio in Seattle over the past year, the sculpture features 6,500 pieces of blue glass mosaic, covering its 159-inch-high form. Thunderbunny will grace the front entrance of the Palm Beach Convention Center for the duration of the fair and will no doubt be trending on social media soon.
