As reported in our print edition of the Nelson County News-Sentinel, Trump Ally Don Thrasher is running as the America First Candidate in the Republican Primary for the Nelson County Judge Executive seat. Thrasher wants to partner with the citizens of Nelson County in decision making. He is proposing Town Hall meetings for all key issues, he will be returning public comment to the Nelson County Fiscal Court and will hold night meetings to allow greater public participation.
Thrasher says he will be a watchdog for taxpayer money. He says he will appoint Planning and Zoning Commissioners who favor less regulation. He will appoint Property Tax Appeal Board members that will be fair, appoint Library Board members that promise to watch spending and remind them it is far too easy to spend other people's money. When it comes to the Nelson County Economic Development Agency he says he will appoint people that will end cronyism and make it fair and level playing field for all Nelson County businesses and people. On infrastructure he says that the Western Bypass is already included in the Road Plan and wants to work to make sure areas of the county with traffic issues are addressed. Thrasher thinks Nelson County Property taxes are too high compared to surrounding counties and will work to reduce property taxes on day 1.
Thrasher also promises to bring the Pledge of Allegiance and Prayer to the Fiscal Court meetings like the surrounding counties already have. Thrasher was the Chairman of the Republican Party of Nelson County up until last year when he stepped down to run for Judge Executive.
Thrasher was one of President Donald Trump's biggest allies in Kentucky. He led the efforts to get a Resolution passed by the Republican Party of Kentucky asking Mitch McConnell to condemn the second impeachment of Trump and to fully support Trump in the second impeachment. Thrasher is endorsed by 3 of the most Conservative Republican Party County Chairmen in Kentucky and is endorsed by State Senator Adrienne Southworth - Lawerencburg (R). Southworth said of Thrasher "I have seen Don Thrasher working at the state level to address our state gas tax hikes. He has continually fought and used his voice for conservative values. Don will make an outstanding Judge Executive that protects the people's interests".
Thrasher is being opposed by 2 former Democrats, Bill Gentry and Tim Hutchins. Hutchins failed twice running for judge executive and switched parties shortly after his second loss in 2014. Gentry switched party from Democrat 2 weeks before filing to run this primary. The Republican Primary in Nelson County will be on May 17th 2022.
