(Parker, Colo.) After Douglas County ranked number one as the healthiest county in Colorado, seniors intend to prove their health during Parker’s Senior Stroll Day.
The 2023 health ranking by the University of Wisconsin named Douglas County, Colorado’s healthiest county for its fourth consecutive year in the County Health Rankings and National Findings Report to measure health outcomes, health factors, and changes that could improve residents' lifespan and quality of life. The rankings are a snapshot of how health is influenced by location, education, work, and activity levels. Douglas County residents ranked the highest in the length of life and have the highest quality of life out of all 59 counties in Colorado.
As a testament to their rankings, Parker citizens will take part in the 30th annual National Senior Health and Fitness Day in Parker’s Senior Stroll at 9 a.m. on May 31 at Salisbury Park, 11920 N. Motsenbocker Rd. in Parker.
Heather Ballantyne, Parker Parks and Recreation’s coordinator for therapeutic recreation and senior programs, shared that Parker has hosted the Senior Stroll for the past 14 years to celebrate a town and county full of healthy and active seniors.
“This event is a great opportunity for seniors in the Parker community to enjoy the benefits of physical exercise at a safe and accessible place as well as spending time outdoors and gaining education and resources from community vendors,” she said,
“It also creates an environment conducive to finding a community of like-minded people, something many struggle with as they age.”
The Senior Stroll features a one-mile walk on a paved trail, followed by a light breakfast, prize giveaways, and local business vendors that put an emphasis on senior health and wellness.
