DougCo offers fun summer activities for adults and seniors

(Douglas County, Colo.) Kids shouldn't be the only ones to have fun this summer, so Douglas County offers recreational activities for adults and seniors. 

From badminton to Australian football, Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Parker and Lone Tree have something for DougCo residents of all ages to enjoy. 

Castle Rock 

Castle Rock offers a variety of sports league options for men's teams, women's teams and coed teams. Summer adult sports leagues include basketball, cornhole, pickleball, softball and volleyball. Prices range from $10 for an afternoon drop-in to $650 for an entire season. Locations vary based on the activity, and registration is open. 

The Castle Rock Senior Activity Center also offers activities for those 50 and over. Sports leagues range from bocce ball to bowling, while other activities include book club, creative writing, trivia, drama workshops and more. The membership fee for the year is $36. The center is located at 2323 Woodlands Blvd. in Castle Rock. 

Highlands Ranch 

The Highlands Ranch Metro District keeps adults active with leagues like kickball, tennis, softball, bocce ball and golf. Locations differ based on the activity and prices range from $18 for an afternoon drop-in to $500 for an entire season. 

The Highlands Ranch Metro District also offers activities for seniors 55 and older who want to stay active this summer. Senior programs include bocce ball, trail walks, wellness classes and social opportunities. Visit the senior center web page for a schedule. 


Parker Parks and Recreation keeps the playing fields full this summer with over a dozen adult sports leagues, including archery, spike ball, climbing, inline hockey, a 55 and over softball league and more. Prices range from $40 to $710, and locations vary. 

The Parker Senior Center offers a wide variety of activities for members 50 and over. Activities include tai chi, line dancing, group outings, painting, wood carving, ceramics, games like bunco, scrabble, bingo and more. Annual membership is $48. The center is in Parker at 10675 Longs Way. 

Lone Tree 

South Suburban Sports includes all ages in summer fun with adult leagues like Australian football, lacrosse, racquetball, soccer, tennis and more. Registration prices range from $4 to $960, and locations vary depending on the activity. 

The Lone Tree Recreation Center offers activities for seniors ages 65 and over with a $4.50 daily pass. That daily fee allows access to the aquatics area and the art room, including an electric kiln for pottery, gym equipment, fitness classes, pickleball courts, racquetball courts, etc. 

The Lone Tree Arts Center also provides senior entertainment with their Arts in the Afternoon program. Arts in the Afternoon is a monthly hour-long program that generally takes place once a month at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoons. The series features classical, jazz, opera and other musical performances alongside an educational component, with professional musicians or narrators sharing historical and artistic insights about the music. Ticket prices vary between performances and include complimentary refreshments and conversations with the artists after each performance. The arts center is in Lone Tree at 10075 Commons St.
