(Highlands Ranch, Colo.) Around 40,000 cars a day go through the Broadway and Plaza Drive intersection in Highlands Ranch; now, the 41-year-old intersection is due for an upgrade.
Construction will begin on May 16, and work will finish by Sept. 1. The project includes replacing the original traffic signal installed in 1981. Construction also will consist of new signal poles, signal heads, replaced concrete and associated equipment.
City planners within Douglas County Government plan to phase the work to reduce traffic impact. Drivers should expect delays.
Wendy Manitta Holmes, director of communications for Douglas County Government, said lane closures would occur as needed to protect workers. The county will notify the public of lane closures and detours via social media, email and the traffic alerts web page.
"Well-maintained roads are safer and last longer and at the same time, we know road construction causes delays and inconveniences at times. We are asking people to sign up for updates, slow down and drop the distraction," Holmes said.
