Members of the Los Angeles City Council are calling for a probe of the movement of migrants bused from Texas to the city this week. This call to action comes only days after local legislators approved a motion urging the city to design a "sanctuary city" code. The motion, initiated by Councilwoman Eunisses Hernandez and supported by Council members Nithya Raman, Monica Rodriguez, and Hugo Soto-Martinez, seeks to direct the City Attorney's office to investigate probable incidents of human trafficking and kidnapping allegedly committed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
In addition, a resolution was introduced urging Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón, California State Attorney General Rob Bonta, and United States Attorney General Merrick Garland to launch similar investigations into potential crimes related to what Governor Abbott has referred to as a "political stunt." The investigation intends to shed light on any criminal acts or malfeasance perpetrated by Abbott and his administration. According to FOX Los Angeles, Soto-Martnez emphasized the importance of a thorough inquiry to guarantee accountability and justice for these families.
Migrant Arrival and the "Sanctuary City" Ordinance

In a news release on Wednesday, Texas Governor Abbott expressed his perspective on the matter, stating that "small Texas border towns remain overrun & overwhelmed because Biden refuses to secure the border." As a result, undocumented immigrants from Texas have arrived in places such as Chicago, New York City, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C.
Strong Words of Criticism and Opposition
LA Mayor Karen Bass openly criticized Governor Abbott, condemning his actions as manipulative and detrimental to human lives. She stated, "Governor Abbott is using human beings as pawns in his cheap political games." Mayor Bass had already directed city departments to plan for the possibility of such an event, referring to it as a "despicable stunt" commonly employed by Republican governors.
Councilwoman Rodriguez also expressed her disapproval, considering Abbott's actions an insult to America's core values and the sacrifices made by her father and countless other service members. She added, "Sadly, these acts show the worst of the political exploitation of vulnerable families by a politician that is unable to provide any compassionate or thoughtful solutions."
