Lentil Fritters
I bought this protein medley soup mix at the local grocery. It’s a blend of five lentils.
I’m going to make lentil fritters out of them. In India we call it Vada. Vada is made out of yellow chickpeas or whole gram dal. But today I’m using this medley soup mix to make a tasty snack. Once you try it you’ll definitely want to make it again. The ingredients are very simple and you may have them already in your kitchen
Method:
1. Take a cup of lentils & soak them for 3-5 hrs.
This is after 5 hrs.
2. Add 1tbsp.of water & blend them coarsely.
3. Into that add:
- Chopped onion ½ cup.
- Chopped ginger 1 tbsp.
- Chopped garlic 1 tbsp.
- Chopped green chilies 1 tsp.
- Cumin seeds ½ tsp.
- Chopped cilantro 1 tbsp.
- Asafetida (a pinch optional)
- Salt to taste
4. Let all the ingredients get well incorporated.
5. In a wok add enough oil to deep fry the fritters over medium heat.
6. To find out if the oil is ready, drop a small amount of batter into the oil, if it pops out immediately
the oil is ready to fry.
7. Take a small amount of batter and shape it into a ball shape & drop it slowly into the oil.
8. If you are not comfortable with using your hands, use an ice cream scoop or a cookie spoon.
9. Cook them on medium low & move them around. Flip them a couple of times so that they'll cook
evenly otherwise they get brown outside but won't cook inside thoroughly.
10. It took 8-10 minutes to get this color.
11. Take them & drain them on a paper towel.
12. It's crispy outside & soft inside.
13. I'm serving them with coconut chutney & tomato ketchup.
It's packed with good sources of protein. If you are a vegan or a vegetarian and looking for a tasty snack, this is for you!
