Trump Is the Biggest Domestic Threat to Women

Msnazzy

I was blown away in 2016 when so many women voted for a man who was caught bragging about grabbing women by their p**** in a video released just a month prior. I was even more shocked in 2020 when around half of white women cast their vote for Donald Trump. After 4 years of watching him degrade, exploit, and actively work to take rights away from women, they still voted for him, and it makes absolutely no sense to me.

Lets just start with the things that Donald Trump has done to set back women’s rights.

Reversal of on-campus sexual assault guidelines and silencing sexual assault victims

I guess it should not be surprising that the man who has a running list of women that have come forward and accused him of sexual misconduct is trying to dismantle the policies designed for handling sexual assault cases. Donald Trump is sitting with 26 incidents of unwanted sexual conduct and 43 instances of inappropriate behavior, but yet again, this should not be surprising as this is the very same man who was caught on tape bragging about sexually assaulting women.

Regarding the reversal of on-campus sexual assault guidelines: In 2011 President Barack Obama’s Department of Education issued guidance lowering the burden of proof in sexual assault cases and threatened to cut federal funding for schools that did not comply. In September of 2017, the Trump Administration reversed a directive that forced universities to quickly investigate on-campus sexual assault.

Trump revoked the 2014 Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces rule that was promulgated under former President Barack Obama’s administration. This order ensured that companies that have federal contracts were required to comply with 14 labor and civil rights laws. By overturning the Fair Pay order, the Trump administration made it possible for businesses with federal contracts to continue hiding sexual harassment cases in secret proceeding. Ultimately, this means that the public may never find out about sexual discrimination claims at a company.

His sick infatuation with blocking Planned Parenthood funding and access to birth control

You would think that the man who has five children with three different women would try and increase access to birth control, but nope, Trump has done the opposite. Trump rolled back an Obamacare rule that required employers to offer health insurance that covered birth control. As an important side note, the Trump administration did this on the anniversary of his famous “grab ‘em by the pussy” tape being released to the public.

Let us not forget that in April of 2017, Donald Trump signed a law that would allow local governments to withhold federal funding from health providers like Planned Parenthood. You know Planned Parenthood, the health provider that takes patients who use Medicaid and provides them services like birth control, cancer screenings, STD testing, annual exams, etc. This leaves these individuals with nowhere else to go for these health care necessities.

Over 60% of Planned Parenthood patients rely on public health programs such as Medicaid and Title X for their preventative care. If we eliminate Planned Parenthood, there would not be enough providers to deliver these important medical services.

Rolling back transgender protections

Just this year, on June 12th, the Trump administration announced that it would be removing healthcare protections for transgender people. So, basically, healthcare providers are allowed refuse services to patients based on their gender identity. To make matters even worse he did this during Pride Month, during a literal pandemic, and on the fourth anniversary of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando, Florida, which specifically targeted members of the LGBTQ community.

The Human Rights Campaign states, “transgender women of color have already disproportionately experienced violence, unemployment, and homelessness, and so this decision by the Trump administration only continues to limit their safety.” Transgender people already have a hard time trying to find care and often experience refusals in a healthcare setting.

Secretly changing the definition of domestic violence

In February 2019, the Trump administration sneakily changed the definition of domestic violence and sexual assault to only include physical harm that would constitute a felony or misdemeanor. This means that psychological abuse does not fall into this category.

Proudly ripping families apart at the border

The Republican party is the party of family values? Oh, I think you mean, the party of supporting the act of ripping families apart.

This bullshit policy was presented as the “zero tolerance” approach, which was intended to deter illegal immigration and encourage tougher legislation. This policy called for the prosecution of all individuals who illegally enter the United States, and requires the separation of children from their parents when they enter the country together. The parents are referred for prosecution, and the children are placed in the custody of a sponsor.

There were more than 650 children that were separated from their parents during a two-week period in May alone. As of October 21, 2020, the parents of 545 children that were separated at the border still have not been found.

Let’s take a look at some of the vulgar and repulsive things that have been said by our 45th President (key word is some, because the list is insanely long):

· [About a 10-year-old girl] "I am going to be dating her in 10 years. Can you believe it?" (A leaked recording, 1992)

· "If Hillary Clinton can't satisfy her husband what makes her think she can satisfy America?" (Twitter, 2015)

· "… she does have a very nice figure. I've said if Ivanka weren't my daughter, perhaps I'd be dating her." (ABC's 'The View', March 6, 2006)

· [To a breastfeeding mother when she asked for a medical break during a legal deposition so she could pump breast milk for her 3-month-old daughter] "You're disgusting." (New York Times, July 2015)

· [On women] "You have to treat 'em like shit." (New York magazine, Nov. 9, 1992)

· "I'm automatically attracted to beautiful women — I just start kissing them. It's like a magnet. Just kiss. I don't even wait. When you're a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. Grab 'em by the pussy. You can do anything." (Access Hollywood tape, 2005)

· [About Carly Fiorina, his one-time Republican rival] "Look at that face. Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president? I mean, she's a woman, and I'm not supposed to say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?" (Sept. 2015)

· [On Omarosa Manigault-Newman] "A crazed, crying lowlife," and a "dog." (Aug. 14, 2018)

· [On the #MeToo Movement] “It is a very scary time for young men in America, where you can be guilty of something you may not be guilty of. … Women are doing great." (Oct. 2, 2018)
