CHARLES COUNTY, MARYLAND: A wave of anger has swept across the internet following the release of a distressing video. The footage reveals a paralyzed Black man being forcibly removed from his car by deputies in Maryland, absent his wheelchair, under the misconception that he was a fugitive.
The individual, who remains unnamed, disclosed the incident via his TikTok account, captioning it, “This is how I was treated in Maryland.”
The widely-circulated video displays an unidentified officer approaching the man after stopping his family’s vehicle. Despite being informed of his paralysis, the officer insisted on him exiting the car.
The unnerving clip, shared on TikTok, includes the officer’s demand: “I'll need you to come out so I can talk to you.” The man responded, outlining his inability to do so due to paralysis. Nevertheless, the officer proceeded to extract him from the vehicle, seemingly oblivious to the man’s immobility.
As the man succumbed to the ground, bystanders, including his wife, reiterated his paraplegic state. The officers, realizing the situation, assisted him back into the vehicle while his wife retrieved his wheelchair.
Subsequently, it was unveiled that the altercation stemmed from a case of mistaken identity, linking the man to criminal activities in another locality. Further footage showcased the man being handcuffed as he sat in his wheelchair at the roadside.

The incident has incited a substantial reaction online, amassing a plethora of comments condemning the actions of the police and clamoring for justice. The video has accumulated approximately 50,000 likes, over 3,900 comments, and has been viewed more than 660,000 times.
Anguish and frustration were palpable in the comments, with one user exclaiming, “We truly hate our own! This infuriates me, utter disrespect. The day of reckoning is coming!” Others questioned the necessity of his removal from the car and expressed sympathy for the individual. Some foresee repercussions for the officer involved, hoping for justice to prevail.
Expressions of empathy and calls for swift resolution also populated the comment section, exemplifying the widespread concern and disapproval elicited by the incident.
