The Indian company Oben Electric has announced that it will begin delivering its first electric motorcycle, the Rorr, in July 2023. This comes as electric motorcycles continue to gain popularity in the European and Asian markets due to their affordability and functionality.
Manufacturers of electric motorcycles have been striving to maintain the traditional motorcycle feel and experience while enhancing performance. Oben Electric is one such player that has focused on creating sporty, performance-oriented electric motorcycles.
The Rorr, which until now has largely remained a concept and a prototype, is set to be delivered to customers as early as the first week of July. This announcement marks a significant milestone for Oben Electric and its customers who have been eagerly awaiting the release of the Rorr.
In preparation for the Rorr deliveries, Oben inaugurated a new experience center in Bangalore. This center, like many others created by electric motorcycle manufacturers, aims to provide potential customers with a comprehensive understanding of electric vehicle technology. Given the significant differences between electric motorcycles and Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) bikes, it's crucial to educate customers about how electric motorcycles operate.
The Rorr has garnered significant interest, with over 21,000 pre-orders already placed. This interest is likely due to the Rorr's unique position as one of the few sporty options in the electric vehicle motorcycle segment. The Rorr is equipped with a 10 kW IPMSM electric motor developed in-house by Oben. With a rated power of 13.4 hp, the Rorr can accelerate from zero to 25 km/h in just three seconds, and its top speed is limited to 99.7 km/h.
Given the high demand for the Oben Rorr, the waiting list is understandably long. However, the company is committed to fulfilling the 21,000 existing orders, marking a significant step forward in the evolution of electric motorcycles. As Oben Electric begins the delivery of the Rorr, it's clear that the future of electric motorcycles is here.
