Grand Prix of The Americas recap

Steve Sargent, Chief Product Officer, Triumph Motorcycles:
“The Grand Prix at COTA was a real race of attrition with many front-runners not scoring any points, such as 2022 race winners Celestino Vietti and Somkiat Chantra, and contenders Aron Canet, Sam Lowes, Fermin Aldeguer and several more. The result meant that the standings have opened up and we welcomed Tony Arbolino to the list of Moto2 winners using Triumph 765cc triple power. Celestino still holds the lead of the World Championship but his points gap is now much reduced and behind him there are four riders all within 11 points of each other. We are very pleased to have powered Aron and Cameron Beaubier to new race and outright COTA lap records respectively too – the sign of a hotly competitive weekend.”

· Tony Arbolino became the 17th different winner in Moto2 using Triumph 765cc power. He is also the third maiden Moto2 winner already from four rounds in 2022

· COTA was the third GP of four so far in 2022 where a complete sweep of race and outright lap records was set in Moto2

Upcoming race – Grand Prix of Portugal

· Moto2 visited the Algarve International Circuit twice last year, and of the current crop Aron Canet was the most consistent performer with a fourth and a second, chasing Raul Fernandez for the win

· Current championship leader Celestino Vietti didn’t finish on the first visit in 2021 but finished sixth on the return. Ai Ogura (second in the Championship) failed to score any points at either visit, as did third-placed man Tony Arbolino

· Hot off the back of his maiden Moto2 pole position, on home soil, Cameron Beaubier will be looking to make amends as he returns to the scene of his best finish to date in the series (5th). None of the current field have won a Moto2 race at the Algarve International Circuit

Triumph Triple Trophy #PoweredbyTriumph

· Celestino Vietti continues to lead the Triumph Triple Trophy #PoweredbyTriumph with a pole position and fastest lap in Qatar and fastest lap in Argentina. He is the only rider to have scored points on more than one occasion this season

· The prize for the highest points-finisher at the end of the season is a custom-liveried Triumph Street Triple RS which boasts the 765cc triple from which the Moto2 engine is derived

About the Triumph Triple Trophy #PoweredbyTriumph

· Points will be awarded to the one rider at the top of each of these categories (or multiple riders in the case of a tie): fastest top speed of the weekend, pole position, and fastest race lap

· Best race progression from start to finish: 7 points for the rider / riders making up the most positions from race start to chequered flag

· Pole position: 6 points for the rider who qualifies on pole

· Fastest race lap: 5 points for the fastest rider / riders in case of an equal fastest lap

The Triumph Moto2™ 765cc race engine is a development of the class-leading Street Triple RS 765cc road motorcycle and produces more than 140PS and the same visceral soundtrack
