Roxbury, NJ - A troubling incident in Roxbury's Port Morris Park has prompted a police investigation and a call for public assistance. On Sunday, October 29, 2023, two female pit bulls were found in a state of abandonment, sparking concern and action from local authorities and animal control.

Residents, upon discovering the dogs, promptly contacted the Roxbury Township Police Department and Roxbury Township Animal Control.

The dogs were confined in a large black metal cage, which raised questions about their previous living conditions. The cage was not only secured with zip ties and a ratchet strap but also partially covered with a red blanket, indicating a possible attempt to conceal the animals.

This case highlights issues related to animal welfare and community safety. The Roxbury Township Police Department is keen on identifying the owner of the dogs, not just to resolve the abandonment issue, but also to understand the circumstances leading to this situation.

The police department is appealing to anyone with information regarding the dogs or their owner to come forward. This call extends to any potential witnesses or anyone who may have seen suspicious activities around Port Morris Park leading up to the discovery.

The dogs, currently in the care of Roxbury Township Animal Control, are reported to be in good health but will require further assessment and potentially, long-term care. The incident raises broader concerns about pet ownership responsibilities and animal welfare in the community.

The Roxbury Township Police Department and local animal welfare groups urge the public to prioritize responsible pet ownership and report any cases of animal neglect or abandonment. The community's involvement is crucial in safeguarding the welfare of animals and ensuring such incidents do not recur.
