Morristown, NJ – On National Agriculture Day, New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas H. Fisher celebrated the Garden State's agricultural achievements and the economic prosperity they bring. He encouraged residents to recognize the vital role of farmers and the abundance they provide to the community and the country.

“National Agriculture Day is a time to highlight the work of everyone involved in this industry right here in the Garden State,” Secretary Fisher said. “Our farmers supply New Jerseyans as well as others throughout North America and beyond. Our farms use innovative measures and conservation practices to care for environment while also growing the best agricultural products available. We also urge consumers to buy local as it supports our farm families in a variety of ways.”

The National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) reports that New Jersey ranks in the top 10 in the U.S. for producing asparagus, blueberries, bell peppers, cranberries, eggplant, spinach, tomatoes, peaches, cucumbers, squash, and sweet corn. The state also boasts top 10 rankings in agritourism, floriculture sales, seafood catch, and seafood landings.

Agriculture plays a crucial role in sustaining a robust economy and offers a wealth of career opportunities. Jobs range from farm production, agribusiness management, and marketing to agricultural research, engineering, food science, processing, retailing, banking, education, landscape architecture, urban planning, and energy.

With nearly 10,000 farms spread across approximately 750,000 acres, New Jersey's agriculture industry remains a vital part of the state's economy and a source of pride for Morristown and its surrounding areas.
