Results of an investigation by the NJDOLs Wage and Hourly Compliance Division found $162,000 in unpaid wages due to nearly 300 New Jersey employees.

Results of an investigation (prompted by an employee complaint) by the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development’s Wage and Hourly Compliance Division found $162,000 in unpaid wages due to nearly 300 New Jersey employees.

Findings revealed that Site Enterprises Inc., of Pleasantville, NJ, owed $112,290 to 23 workers for violations on three separate public works projects: asbestos abatement at Kean University in Union, emergency housing demolition in Camden, and asbestos abatement and demolition of a New Jersey Schools development project in East Orange.

The violations include the failure to pay a prevailing wage, keeping inaccurate certified payrolls, and miscalculation of employees as independent contractors – depriving workers of benefits like medical, sick leave, and more.

On Target Staffing in North Brunswick and Diamond Chemical Inc. in East Rutherford were found to have improperly deducted transportation costs and breaks under 20 minutes from employee paychecks.

Each company agreed to pay a combined total of $50,000 to 271 employees to “remedy” the violations.

Site Enterprises paid an additional $46k in penalties and fees and agreed to 18-months of voluntary probation from engaging in public work projects.

On Target Staffing and Diamond Chemical Inc. paid an additional $22,500 in penalties and fees and has no restrictions against engaging in public work in the near future.

If you believe you are being unfairly compensated at work or believe you may be a victim of fraud, file a report with the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development. The NJDOL exists to ensure the rights and safety of NJ employees.
