Fried Chicken & Wine in Denver

Morgan LaDuke

Fried chicken and wine are not a typical dinner combination. However, before you discount it, you should check out Noble Riot.

Noble Riot is situated off of a busy street in Denver's trendy River North Art District. Upon walking in, you're greeted by a modern dining area with gentle lighting and plenty of seating options. The staff is quick to greet and serve you, even when it's busy.

First, there are extensive options of wine to choose from; available both by the bottle and by the glass. Their wine selection variety is enough in itself to make this place worth the stop. I tried out the Grüner Veltliner which was a flavorful and bubbly wine with a sour twist. If you aren't a fan of wine, they also have some beer and cocktail offerings to enjoy.

Now for the best part: the food. I was initially wary to try dinner here because they have quite a small food menu. However, I was very pleased with the care they put into their food and how tasty it is. I highly recommend buying their fried chicken bucket. Yes, you read that correctly! An upscale restaurant with a fried chicken bucket - and it's amazing. I also want to mention that their fried chicken is gluten-free for anyone who is intolerant.

The price for a chicken bucket is reasonable for what you get. They come in a small size for 2 people ($19) or large for 4 ($36.) The way the dish is presented is put-together and fun, and it includes some dipping sauce as well as a side of potato salad. The chicken was pleasantly crisp, not greasy, and has the perfect amount of flavor. While the chicken bucket might be enough to fill you up, there are some other menu items I'll recommend below if you're still hungry.

4 piece meat and cheeseMorgan LaDuke

I believe that charcuterie boards are essential if you're having wine. Thankfully, Noble Riot has you covered. Their 4 piece meat and cheese dish is the perfect pairing for some wine. It offers a nice variety of bread, meat, and cheese - making it a safe menu option for multiple people to enjoy. Additionally, I'd encourage you to order their "riot fries," which are basically smashed fingerling potatoes. With a crunchy exterior and fluffy interior, they are delicious - especially with the aioli that comes on the side. Lastly, if you're craving something on the lighter side, try their Hawaiian Bigeye Tuna Tartare. It is beautifully presented, fresh, and a nice alternative for those with a small appetite.
