Bowling and mini golf growing old? Throwing axes is the newest outing on the block. In an ever-present search for experiences, throwing axes at a wall somehow surfaced as the new thing to do for social outings. Date nights, office parties, bachelorette parties—you name it. Axe throwing is a unique, invigorating change to the usual dinner and drinks. Lucky for us Orlandoans, axe throwing businesses are kicking off left and right from Lake Buena Vista to Longwood and everywhere in between.

1. Epic Axe Throwing

Located right in Downtown Orlando next to Craft & Common and with nearly 300 reviews on Google placing it right under five stars, this is an obvious favorite of the area.

The staff and customer service at this axe throwing hotspot are incredible. Having been the first axe throwing spot I’ve personally experienced, it was far from what I feared it would be. The atmosphere is welcoming and there are no amped-up macho men in sight.

You begin with safety training provided by a shared coach who will then guide you through axe throwing form. I’m not great at axe throwing, in fact, I’m not even in the same tier as moderately good but the coaches at this location were able to help me throw a bullseye. Now that’s satisfying (and surprising).

If you find you can’t get enough of axe throwing, they have Axe Leagues open to all skill levels that are sponsored by the World Axe Throwing League (WATL) which is the big guy in the competitive axe throwing world.

The easiest parking to get to Epic Axe Throwing is in the lot right behind the building. On a weekday the cost is fairly low but be sure to pay it—the towing company there is vicious.

Cost: $25.00 per person (plus tax) for a one-hour session

Groups of six or more throwers include a higher rate at $39.50 per person (plus tax) but include an extra hour.

Address: 47 E Robinson St #104, Orlando, FL 32801

2. Axe On Axe Off

Located near the Florida Mall, Axe On Axe Off is the self-proclaimed largest axe throwing venue in the Orlando area. At 4,028 square feet, this family-owned business, boasts 20 target structures, a spectator area, and a lounge space. Coaches are available on the premise for instruction and advice with your axe throwing technique.

Given this is closer to the touristy area of Orlando, I’d recommend booking ahead especially for weekend slots. While they do allow for walk-ins, it’s better not to waste time driving if they’re packed.

Cost: $20 per person (plus tax) for a one-hour session.

Address: 1355 Sand Lake Rd #4, Orlando, FL 32809

3. BATL

This chain of axe throwing spots has moved to Orlando. They recommend you book ahead if you want to throw, especially on busy weekends. The best thing about BATL is the variety of options you have when it comes to throwing. Go for Casual if you just want to hang out and throw axes. Premium may be for you if you want a more intensive experience. And, as with most axe venues in the area, if you want to get competitive they offer a WATL league.

Note: Their Orlando location doesn’t offer food or beverages at the time of writing.

Cost: $26 for an hour per person for Casual.

$44 for two hours per person for Casual.

$38 per person for a Premium session.

Address: 55 W Church St Suite 113, Orlando, FL 32801

4. Stumpy’s Hatchet House

Stumpy’s Hatchet House is another chain with locations across the country that has found its way to Orlando. They offer different throwing games your group can play. Each session includes a 15 minutes instruction period provided by a trainer to help you understand safety and technique.

If they have throwing pits available, walk-ins are welcome. However, with a usually booked schedule, they can’t guarantee you a spot without a reservation.

Cost: $25 per person for one-hour sessions in parties of four or fewer.

$40 per person for two-hour sessions in parties of more than four.

Strangely enough, if a friend wants to spectate but not throw they have to pay $15.

Address: 8462 Palm Pkwy, Orlando, FL 32836

5. Rockstar Axe Throwing

Rockstar Axe Throwing like all axe throwing venues offers axe throwing—duh. But, in addition to axes guests can learn to throw knives. This makes Rockstar Axe Throwing the only venue in Orlando to provide both axe and knife throwing. Check their walk-in hours before you go or schedule a session ahead of time. This venue offers mobile throwing services along with kids’ parties including suction cups and velcro axes.

Cost: $25 per person for one hour in groups of less than six.

$39.50 per person for two hours in groups of six or more.

Check their websites for more details.

Address: 3402 Technological Ave Suite 148, Orlando, FL 32817

6. Celtic Axe @ Hourglass Brewing

Yet another chain of axe throwing venues that has made its way to the Orlando area, Celtic Axe has found its home at Hourglass Brewing. Having an axe throwing venue paired up with a brewery where events like art shows and weekly trivia are held is a recipe for awesome entertainment. Walk-ins are welcome at this location but lanes are available on a first-come-first-served basis. If you know you’ll be throwing axes on a certain day you may as well make a reservation.

Unlike most other locations, Celtic Axes allows throwers to bring their own axe as long as it meets NWATA standards and is approved by the Axe Marshal.

Cost: $60 for one hour and two throwers.

Check website pricing for additional options.

Address: 480 S Ronald Reagan Blvd Axe Suite, Longwood, FL 32750

7. My Axes Place

My Axes Place calls axe throwing “an extreme game of darts”. They, like most of the axe throwing venues, have coaches on hand to help if you need assistance. This venue has a WATL league for those who want to be more competitive with this pastime. If you want to keep it casual, enjoy their lounge and casual throwing with friends. Unlike most other venues in the area, My Axes Place also offers a membership for guests who want to return regularly. These memberships come with discounts for guests and merchandise. In addition, they also have a throwing league you can join.

Cost: Starts at $25 per hour for one thrower. Check their website for more pricing options.

Address: 50 E 5th St, Apopka, FL 32703
