AUSTIN, TX – The Republican Party of Texas announced its Chairman, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Allen West, has turned in his resignation from his position in the party.

In a morning release, The Republican Party of Texas stated Chairman West turned in his “irrevocable resignation” during an 8:00 a.m. meeting of party officials. West will remain Chairman until a new Chair is selected by party leadership on July 11th.

“Lt. Col. Allen West will take this opportunity to prayerfully reflect on a new chapter in his already distinguished career,” said the RPT in a press release. “We know that wherever he goes next, he will continue to be a bulwark against progressive socialism and a champion for the principles of Texas and our American Republic.”

Lt. Col. West did not give an official reason for his sudden resignation, only stating, “it has been my distinct honor to serve as Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas. I pray Godspeed for this governing body.” However, speculation has surrounded West regarding a potential run for Governor of the State of Texas

So far, former Republican State Senator Don Huffines and entertainer Chad Prather have announced their campaigns for Texas Governor against Greg Abbott in 2022. If West does decide to run for Governor, the chance of a run-off election go up exponentially with four candidates on the Republican ticket alone.

West has only served as the Chairman of the RPT for one year after beating out James Dickey for the seat in July, 2020 after a chaotic virtual convention that suffered many delays. Where and how a new RPT Chairman will be selected in “undetermined” at this time according to the Republican Party of Texas, however, they expect to have a new Chairman selected by July 11.
