Streaming Wars and How YouTube Is Coming Out On Top

YouTube is a major social media website and has ad revenue that has even beat Netflix during 2023 with the site’s ad revenue topping eight billion six hundred million United States Dollars from their ads. As news services like TLDR News have pointed out, YouTube seems to be winning the current streaming wars and is proving how this site has longevity that allows it to be able to compete with a lot of other websites. So many streaming services have been competing against each other, believing that their company would end up being the most used streaming service, but it seems like YouTube continues to be on top!

For those who do not know, the streaming wars are a type of ‘conflict’ in the market of streaming where different streaming services compete with each other to see who could have the most customers and revenue. Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney Plus, and HBO Max (now just called Max) all fought to grow as much as possible, but the different streaming services have started to lose money. On top of that, most of these services are now implementing an ad-supported version of their services even though many have pointed out that one of the original benefits of streaming was how you could watch your shows with no ads.

Despite the economic slowdown, YouTube had more screen time than other services – especially streaming services – in September 2023. Even YouTube Premium, the premium service, had eighty million subs as of 2022 which is a third of Netflix. That means YouTube gets eight million subscribers who pay regularly and ad revenue from most of the other people watching the site.
