The nation of Uruguay launches digital nomad visa

Mint Message

The idea of being a digital nomad - a person who earns a living working online in various locations of their choosing (rather than a fixed business location) - is an attractive work option for plenty of people. We at Mint Message have already written an article to introduce people to the concept of becoming a digital nomad. Well now, the nation of Uruguay is offering these modern remote workers another interesting option when it comes to where they can go to work.

According to the news website known as Timeout.com, the small South American country of Uruguay is granting digital nomads visas that will allow said nomads to stay and work in the country for an entire year. This particular visa seems more accessible than similar forms of nomad visas that can be found in other parts of the world. For one, there is no minimum income requirement when it comes to the Uruguayan version of a digital nomad visa.

On top of that, all that is really required to get this visa is having a clean criminal record and being either self-employed or working at a foreign company that can provide Uruguay with some form of outside income. Even better - if you are a tech worker type of digital nomad, you are exempt from paying regular taxes while you are living in Uruguay, so you can basically save a lot of money by using this particular visa and working in Uruguay. If you are interested, you can fill out an online form on the official website here.
