Hurricane Ian Heading To Carolinas!

Hurricane Ian started to make final landfall in South Carolina this afternoon! Weather.com is keeping track of Hurricane Ian as it begins to make landfall once again. As the hurricane starts to approach this part of the coast, heavy rains are starting to appear across the Southern portion of the United States east coast. Strong wind gusts and higher than normal water levels are being to impact parts of South Carolina and North Carolina. Currently, Folly Beach, South Carolina is beginning to see wind gusts up to sixty-six miles per hour. Multiple roads have been closed because of flooding in the Charleston metro area in South Carolina & winds gusting up to forty miles per hour have been reported at Charleston's airport. As Ian starts to make landfall, the hurricane begins its assault as a Category 1 storm and some meteorologists believe the hurricane will weaken into a tropical storm later this weekend while finally attacking a low-pressure area in North Carolina on Saturday.

A hurricane warning has been issued along the coast of South Carolina including Hilton Head Island, Charleston, and Myrtle Beach. On top of that, there is a warning for the coastal area of North Carolina northward to Cape Fear. These areas are expected to suffer scattered power outages and some tree damage that can cause even more damage to surrounding homes & structures. Flooding can even be expected to take place even in the easternmost portions of Virginia & some studying the storm believe a few tornadoes are possibly going to form in the Carolinas and Virginia.

Currently, the lawmakers of the United States of America seem to be moving forward with their plans for a TikTok ban or potentially forcing the sale of TikTok to a company that does not have direct ties to the Chinese Communist Party. California plans a bill to target snacks with toxic chemicals

If a bill gets passed that was proposed by California Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel and turned into a law for the state of California, then a bunch of candy and snacks at the local markets for the state could be made to change certain ingredients in their recipes for the health of the population. Google says fewer employees will get promotions to senior positions

The tech giant Google has slowed the rate at which it is hiring new people and - at the same time - is telling its employees that fewer individuals working there will be promoted to senior positions in the company. All of this was said in an email to the employees this Monday which stated "The process is manager-led and will be largely similar to last year — though with our slower pace of hiring, we are planning for fewer promotions into L6 and above than when Google was growing quickly. If your manager believes that you are ready to be promoted, they will nominate you." YouTube Shorts Tries To Pull Away Viewers from competitor TikTok

As Mint Message has pointed out before and as Financial Times has pointed out in one of their news articles, YouTube is offering financial incentives for those who are creating short videos with the hope of luring people away from their social media rival TikTok. TikTok tends to be more popular among young users, so Google's parent company Alphabet hopes that Shorts will continue to make YouTube viable for the younger demographic and attract short content creators since they can now earn ad revenue from posting their new shorts or old TikTok videos onto YouTube. According to Nicky Rettke, the vice president of product management at YouTube, the short-form feature at YouTube has grown quickly over the past two years and YouTube hopes it will continue to grow.

History of LinkedIn

LinkedIn is probably the largest professional network service in the world at the time of this writing & this article is just a quick segment about the history of this network anyone can read if they are interested. It was founded on May 5th of 2003 in Mountain View, California in the United States. The site was founded by Reid Hoffman and many individuals who helped with finding PayPal and Socialnet.com. By August 2004, LinkedIn gained a million users, an impressive milestone, and by March 2006, LinkedIn officially made a profit. By 2007, LinkedIn had reached 10 million users and the year after that achievement, the social media site finally released a mobile app that would allow mobile users to utilize the platform directly from their smartphones. In October of 2010, LinkedIn was ranked by Silicon Valley Insider as the 10th most valuable startup in America and by December of that year, LinkedIn was valued at $1.575 billion US Dollars. By 2016, Microsoft bought out LinkedIn and made it its' subsidiary. To this day, Microsoft still owns LinkedIn but allows the giant to act as its own independent entity mostly. Now, LinkedIn has over seven hundred forty million members using the site.

International court issues war crimes warrant for Putin

This Friday, the International Criminal Court, or ICC for short, issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin for war crimes with the warrant stating that the Russian President was personally responsible for the abductions of children from Ukraine. The warrant includes the current president of Russia and another key Russian official that is part of Putin's inner circle. According to CNN, this is not only a historical blow to the reputation of Vladimir Putin, but it is a blow to the reputation of the modern Russian state.

Scientists revive frozen virus from 48,500 years in the past

French scientists have discovered strains of ancient viruses that have been frozen for over forty-eight thousand five hundred years. Samples for the “zombie viruses” were collected from permafrost that could be found in Serbia. After all of this research on the viruses, a recent peer-reviewed study was released in the scientific journal known as Viruses last February and explained how they found thirteen ancient viruses said permafrost. One of the 13 strains that the scientific team revived was the virus strain now known as Pandoravirus yedoma, the oldest virus that they were able to isolate and research before producing the study.

North Korea launches 2 cruise missiles before US-South Korea military drills

North Korea has fired two missiles from a submarine that was striking some kind of underwater target according to the state media from the country. All of this happened on March twelfth of 2023 from an undisclosed location in the East Sea (which is also known as the Sea of Japan). According to the South Korean military, they simply detected “one unidentified missile fired from North Korea’s submarine vessel near North’s port city of Sinpo.” The missile test happened about a single day before the United States of America and South Korea planned to have an eleven-day military exercise - an exercise that is planned to potentially be the biggest war game event in five years for the two countries.
