Oceano Dunes near Pismo Beach (Ending vehicle access by 2024)

Located along California’s central coast, Oceano Dunes, also known as Pacific Dunes and Pismo beach sand dunes, is a recreational haven for off-roading enthusiasts. It’s also a great place for surfing and wind sports, horseback riding, biking (in our case riding our scooters) as well exploring the natural preserve of the dunes, which is particularly special at sunset. This is also the only place in California where you can actually drive and camp on the beach, however it looks like this will be coming to an end as civic leaders are phasing vehicle beach access out by 2024, so you still have a few years to try out this unique experience.
