(BROOKLYN, N.Y.) The New York Philharmonic is teaming up with the Prospect Park Alliance for a free concert and fireworks display on June 17 at 8 p.m.

Park visitors can expect to see a performance by conductor Jaap van Zweden and violinist Bomsori Kim at the Long Meadow Ballfields.

The concert is scheduled to end around 10 p.m. and fireworks will immediately follow. While some may look forward to the post-performance fireworks, community members have petitioned to ban fireworks in the park in order to avoid scaring pets and wildlife, including animals at the Prospect Park Zoo.

The performance is part of the NYP's Concerts in the Parks series, which started over 50 years ago to provide parkgoers with an opportunity to hear classical music under the stars. The Philharmonic will play a concert in all five boroughs and information on all the performances can be found here.

The series returns after two years of cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
