DETROIT, MI – The Detroit Historical Society, with an award-winning 100-year legacy of preserving and retelling Detroit’s stories, is looking for a Visitor Experience Associate.

Founded in 1921, the Society has been a place where diverse voices and communities are brought together to collectively narrate the stories of Detroit and its region. It develops and manages exhibitions and programming for the Detroit Historical Museum in Midtown and Dossin Great Lakes Museum in Belle Isle, while the Society itself calls Detroit’s Cultural Center district home.

Join the national leader in museum services that creates more than just experiences, but also movements. For example, to commemorate the 50-year anniversary of the civil unrest, DHS launched a community-wide collaborative project called "Detroit 67: Looking Back to Move Forward" in 2017.

Part of the Operations Department, Visitor Experience Associates will be reporting to Visitor Experience Manager during regular museum hours at both the Detroit Historical Museum and Dossin Great Lakes Museum. They will also be in charge of the retail stores of both locations.

Candidates are required to have at least High School Diploma or G.E.D. credential and valid driver’s license. Retail or customer service experience with cash handling along with data entry and computer skills are expected.

An interest in Detroit history, first aid/AED/CPR certification, and hospitality skills will definitely be an advantage. All candidates must be willing to authorize a background check.

This part-time position requires the employed candidate to work approximately 10-20 hours per week for $10.00 per hour.
