DETROIT, MI – The Detroit Historical Society, the guardian of more than 250,000 artifacts held in the collections of Detroit Historical Museum and the Dossin Great Lakes Museum, is opening a vacancy to join its team as Associate Event Manager.

Since its founding in 1921, the Society has been preserving the history of Detroit for the current and future generations of metro Detroiters. It co-manages the Detroit Historical Museum and the Dossin Great Lakes Museum alongside the City of Detroit, while the management of the Historic Fort Wayne is assumed by the City of Detroit’s Recreation Department.

An Associate Event Manager will be reporting to Event Operations Manager Facility Rentals Department. They will play a key role in leading the planning and execution of events, including attending meetings with clients/staff and vendors and leading a team to execute the setup, flow, and teardown of events.

For events that need more than one manager, this position might also provide coverage. This also applies when there are gaps in part-time event staffing. They will also be responsible for event management for all internal museum events and the equipment lists management for both locations.

The candidate for this position must possess strong customer service sad communication skills with 5 years of experience as a server in a fine dining or hospitality environment. An additional experience of at least 2-3 years in event planning and execution, as well as owning reliable transportation, is also expected.

Employed applicants must be available to work evenings and weekends, aside from regular availability for office hours. To be an eligible applicant, one must also be able to pass a background check. First Aid/AED/CPR certification is an advantage, but it can be obtained once you are hired.
