(Forsyth County, GA) The Humane Society of the United States has honored the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners (BOC) with the Humane Law Maker Award.
The award was presented during the BOC meeting on Thursday, July 21.
The national group recognized the Forsyth County lawmakers for their “leadership and support of animal welfare” when it voted last month to prohibit the illegal sale of pets by modifying Ordinance 11 with an amendment banning pets from being sold in pet shops or on the side of the road. Under the amendment, animals up for adoption through proper organizations may remain at pet shops.
The commissioners were also given a special portrait featuring the state dog of Georgia, called “The Adoptable Dog”.
A news release states “The Board of Commissioners is proud to have the support of the community and to continue serving the County through their individual and collective capacities.”
