Elden Ring is a collaboration between George R.R. Martin, the New York Times best-selling author of Game of Thrones, and Hidetaka Miyazaki, creator of the DARK SOULS video game series.
Heralded as a new dark fantasy action RPG, it revolves around the Elden Ring, which holds the power to command the stars and life itself, until it was shattered by someone... or something. Now the world is at war, and the sky burns. The main character represents the will, or ambition, of mankind.
It looks really fun! The Network Test gameplay is even better as it’s from several different sources and usually not edited like the 15-minute gameplay preview was.
Combat is essentially a refined version of Dark Souls 3 with Poise finally back and Weapon Arts being tuned up to 11. Mounted combat is apparently quite fun for what it is. The open-world won’t provide the same refined experience as previous games, but Sekiro indicates to me the large Legacy Dungeon areas will still be fun and tightly made.
My main concern is balancing, as some of these weapon arts and Summons are pretty crazy, but there are still several months for Fromsoft to iron that out especially via what they observe in the gameplay demo.
Sadly, I can’t get a chance at it myself because the Network Test isn’t for PC players, but I’m still most likely gonna be a launch day player. Here’s to the chase for the Moonlight Greatsword!
