Southern Market in Lancaster City is a cool spot if you're looking to get a more diverse glimpse of the food scene in the county. I recently tried out Pho Life, dishing up fast-casual Northern style Vietnamese cuisine, often served in a bowl.
Comfort food
I went for one of the pho rice noodle soup options - a brisket pho - which was outstanding. The ideal, healthy version of comfort food at its best. Using simple herbs and flavors, the owners (and couple), Anh Tren and Minh Nyugen along with their business partner Davaun Dorsey, are creating exceptional Northern Vietnamese flavors.
Pho is a soup dish consisting of broth, rice noodles, herbs, and often meat. It is a popular food in Vietnam; served in households, street-stalls, and restaurants across the country.
Various cuisines
As for options at Southern Market, you've got a fair share of cuisines to choose between.
From Middle Eastern meals at Layali el Sham, Burmese and Japanese at Akhi Sushi, or European flavors at A La Board; there's plenty of foods, and plenty of room.
The food hall seats 250 and has become a popular gathering spot to consume lunch, dinner, or simply a spot to have a drink with friends after work.
A local visitor says it well in a recent review:
"Spent 20 years of my life opening and running restaurants and I could not love this concept more. You literally have a little bit of everything from pizza to Moroccan food and some great options in between."
Address: Southern Market is located at 100 S Queen St, Lancaster, PA 17603.
