If you grew up in a Christian household in Lancaster, PA (or anywhere else, for that matter), you may have heard of the word Agapē.

If not, here's what you need to know: The name comes from an ancient Greek word often used when describing Christ’s love for mankind. It is the highest form of unselfish love for another.

At Agapē Cafe & Grille along Hartman Bridge Road in Strasburg, the owners, Ruthie and JR Stoltzfus, want to provide an atmosphere where that love is felt by each person that walks through their doors.

Homemade snicker bar and fresh coffee

After a recent weekend of spending time getting gifts and decor for Christmas, I was up for a coffee break, and I've heard good things about Agapē. This coffee shop opened during the pandemic, and it seems like they keep themselves busy.

When I arrived, there was a 30-minute wait to get a table, so I got my coffee and dessert, a homemade, giant, snicker bar, to go, and spent some time at the next-door shop, Beautiful Home Interiors, which the Stoltzfus family also owns.

The coffee wasn't extraordinary, but it did the job, providing a caffeine boost. The snickerbar, however, was out of this world. Never have I seen, or tasted, a homemade snickerbar, and I didn't quite know what to expect when biting into it. I enjoy chocolate, caramel, and nuts, and this was a perfect fusion of flavors.

Second restaurant

Ruthie and JR are not new to the restaurant business. They have owned the Dutch Family Restaurant in Germantown, MD for the past 15+ years, and they are good at what they do.

Breakfast platters, golden malted waffles, smoked meat, herb-infused fruit spritzers, homemade sweet treats, there really should be something for every taste bud at this spot.

I know I'm going back for seconds.
