3 Food Vendor Highlights at Root's Country Market & Auction [Summer 2022]

If you ever find yourself at Root's Country Market & Auction, know that you've got options when it comes to basically anything. There is a wide array of vendors covering everything from football cards to Amish furniture, gems, and homemade pies. I stopped by Root's last week for produce and decided to have lunch there as well. Three savory vendors caught my eye, all of them which are fairly busy. There's usually a line, so I am assuming people like what they offer.

Fink's

Starting with a local favorite. Fink's French Fries was actually voted the best fries in Lancaster a few years back, and they also have their own fan group on Facebook. This family-owned business has been dishing up homemade fries have been around Manheim for decades. If you order their fries, odds are you'll be greeted with a smile and receive a generous portion size.

Steaks-N-Stuff

Steaks-N-Stuff offers reasonably priced (cheeseburger at $4) fair and festival foods. Their lunch menu includes cheesesteaks, sausage, burgers, and more. Water and sodas are a dollar.

The food at Steaks-N-Stuff is simple, good, and filling. The service is great and you don't have to wait long to get your meal. Several picnic tables and benches are located right next to their stand, making it a perfect pit-top in between strolling around Root's for antiques or local produce.

Hess's BBQ

A Lancaster gem, this one. To date, Hess's BBQ has earned over 100 awards and counting for their chicken, pork, briskets and ribs, including "The Best Barbecue Caterers" in Lancaster, PA.

This family-owned business has been around since 1978, when the two brothers Paul and Lloyd Hess decided to turn their butcher shop into a barbecue catering business.

There's something for every taste bud at Root's, whether you're into sweet, savory, fried or baked. You'll find a lot of fried meals but there's also a large section of fresh produce and healthier options, which I am planning to cover next time I'm at the market.
