This upcoming weekend, it is time for the 6th annual Lancaster VegFest. The two-day festival is held at Buchanan Park in Lancaster City and is all about celebrating the plant-based lifestyle. The event is organized by Lancaster Farm Sanctuary, whose mission is to provide information about the benefits of a plant-based diet for health and the benefit to animals.
Music and speakers
On the main stage in the park, there will be live music both days, The Funkitorium and DJ shewülf being two of the lineups. The latter is a vegan, Philly-based queer DJ who has helped vegan organizations, including Lancaster Farm Sanctuary, to raise money to help end animal suffering and reach others through a sustainable vegan lifestyle.
There are also several speakers lined up, as well as plenty of activities for kids.
Sunday's speaker is the president and co-founder of Farm Sanctuary, Gene Baur. He has been praised as “the conscience of the food movement” by TIME magazine. Since the 80s, Baur has worked to raise awareness about factory farming abuses and promoted a just and compassionate food system.
Vendor highlights
And last but not least, there will be lots and lots of plant-based deliciousness.
Some of the food vendors include: Root of Lancaster - an all vegan restaurant and bar based in Lancaster, PA. The owner, Rob Garpstas, a bar and restaurant owner since 1999, became vegan in 2011 after being inspired by his youngest daughter's interest in animal activism. Harvest Seasonal Grill will also be at the VegFest, and so will Real Food From The Ground Up, Every Soul Vegan Bakery, Levengoods of Lancaster, and many more! Needless to say, come hungry.
All vendors can be found at VegFest's website.
Address: Buchanan Park, 901 Buchanan Ave, Lancaster, PA 17603.
