I don't know about you, but whenever I am visiting a cafe, I have high expectations when it comes to the coffee. I want it to taste much better than the same old coffee I make at home - day in, day out. After almost three years in Lancaster, PA, these are some of my current favorite coffee shops.

Passenger Coffee

I'm starting with this one because this place has become my favorite cafe in downtown Lancaster. The prices are reasonable, the coffee is outstanding, and the interior makes you feel like you're in a big city, which I love.

Passenger Coffee also has a strong dedication to ethics and a sustainable supply chain. Their motto is "to seek out and thoughtfully present the world’s most memorable coffees and teas in a way that demonstrates the viability of an equitable supply chain."

Oh, and I almost forgot: Passenger Coffee was also recently named the best coffee shop in the state.

Mean Cup

Most recently when I visited Mean Cup, they had an amazing seasonal latte. The drink had a hint of caramel and coconut to it. It was one of the best lattes I've ever had, although the sweetness almost makes it qualify as a drinkable dessert, too!

This industrial spot on Harrisburg Ave, and at Central Market three days each week, will serve you a tasty drink with lots of caffeine. They also offer light fare such as baked goods and sandwiches.

Square One Coffee

Square One Coffee not only serve high-quality coffee, but they are also an award-winning micro-roaster. The family-owned business on North Duke Street has been around for 16 years. Their motto is simply: “Do good work.”

The owners believe everything that goes into a cup of coffee matters: How it is grown, traded, roasted, and how much heart people put into their work every single step along the way.

Their cafe in Lancaster occupies a beautiful, renovated townhouse. They offer a wide array of coffee drinks, and also carry local pastries and bagels from several local bakers as well as a few light fare options.
